CCC Wash House at Chinsegut Hill
CCC Wash House at Chinsegut Hill

At this point in the internship there have been a few successes and a few foul ups. On the success side I am getting a lot of decent research done. I have been reading a lot of secondary sources about the Robins family and using them to seek out primary sources where I can find them. I am developing a timeline of events for my future reference with mostly understandable notes and references to books, sources, etc. I am a big fan of Excel. The plan is to use this as the foundation for future research, writing, or wherever it takes me. So far so good. Speaking in front of a group has not really bothered me for quite a while, but for me there is a big difference between presenting and storytelling. This experience is helping me develop my storytelling abilities. It is easyish for a short time but being about to maintain the flow is hard for any length of time. It is getting there.

On the foul up side. (read whining) I have never been fond of group projects or having to rely on anything outside of choosing to get pretty much anything completed. They are unavoidable and often necessary, sometimes even worthwhile, but they do have their associated problems. At this point in life I know this but apparently needed a reminder. I had three weeks' worth of snafus with getting microphones for the video project. Finally got it last week and no batteries. Also there was only one... It is workable but not optimal. If things go right Saturday morning, I should have something besides filler recorded. If that does go well, I should also have something tangible to show for my time. Not panicking yet but it's further behind than I want it to be. I am iffy on the microphone, both the number and quality. It was lent me and that was very nice but the delay is causing problems. Depending on how Saturday goes, I will likely pick up some online and redo it next weekend.

Regardless, I am pretty good at picking up pieces and getting on with it. From a video standpoint, I actually am fairly well set despite whimpering about microphones.  I have all of the transitional photos and video clips I need to put the first bit together. They are faily well organized, and I have the narration written well enough. It will need a rewrite once the body is shot, but that is easy. Assuming I have the interview completed Saturday, I should have the first clip finished by next week. If so, I am off and running. Or I will have run into a wall. You will have to wait until next week to see.

As a quick final note, this really has been a great experience.
